Apple to Discontinue ‘My Photo Stream’ Feature, Encourages Users to Save Their Photos
Apple’s ‘My Photo Stream’ service is set to shut down on July 26, 2023, prompting users to transition to alternative options for preserving their cherished memories.
Apple introduced the ‘My Photo Stream’ feature in 2011, providing users with the convenience of automatically syncing up to 1,000 photos or videos from the previous 30 days. This feature enabled easy access to their most recent media across Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Nevertheless, Apple has recently communicated through a blog post that ‘My Photo Stream’ will be discontinued on July 26 of this year.
Transitioning to New Solutions

Any photos that users have previously uploaded to the service will be stored in iCloud for a duration of 30 days from the date of upload. Preserving Your Photo Library
For a quick recap, utilizing ‘My Photo Stream’ requires users to save media to their camera roll, where they remain available for approximately a month before being automatically deleted. Unlike iCloud Photos, this service does not sync photos in full resolution.
Apple emphasizes that pictures stored within ‘My Photo Stream’ are preserved on at least one of the user’s devices. This means that even after the service is discontinued, users will not lose any of their photos. Saving Your Photos
To transfer photos from ‘My Photo Stream’ to your iPhone, open the ‘Photos’ app and locate the ‘My Photo Stream’ album. Then, choose the desired photos, tap the Share button, select the ‘Save Image’ option, and you’re done. On a Mac, the process is similar, except instead of using the ‘Share’ button, users should simply drag the images from ‘My Photo Stream’ to the Library.
