Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Mid-Range Chipset with Improved Performance

New Chipset Promises Double the Performance of its Predecessor and Features Dual-SIM Dual Active 4G/5G Connectivity

Qualcomm, a leading American semiconductor company, has announced the launch of its latest mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. This new chipset promises to deliver improved performance and features that will enhance the user experience.

Improved Performance with 1+3+4 Architecture

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is built on the 4nm fabrication node of TSMC and features a 1+3+4 architecture. The main Kryo Cortex X-2 core is clocked at up to 2.91GHz, and the 3x Cortex A710 cores run at up to 2.49GHz. The rest of the cores are clocked at up to 1.8GHz and are Cortex A510 efficiency cores. According to Qualcomm, this new chipset can offer up to 50% more performance compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Improved Graphics with Snapdragon Elite Gaming

The graphics performance is handled by an unnamed Adreno GPU that delivers twice the performance gains with a slight improvement in efficiency. Additionally, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 brings Snapdragon Elite Gaming features onboard, including Auto Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Volumetric Rendering, and Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX codec.

Improved Camera and AI Capabilities

The chipset also features an 18-bit Triple ISP, supporting up to 200MP photo capture, and staggered HDR video capture with triple exposure from two simultaneous cameras. The Qualcomm AI engine promises to offer twice the AI performance of its predecessor, with 40% performance per Watt gains. AI Super Resolution can upscale game scenes or photos.

Dual-SIM Dual Active 4G/5G Connectivity

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 comes with the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem, supporting Dual-SIM Dual Active 4G/5G connectivity. This is a first for the Snapdragon 7-series. Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 is incorporated in the chipset, allowing for the support of Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 6E.

First Smartphones to Feature Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Chipset

The Redmi Note 12 Turbo and Realme GT Neo5 SE will be the first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset. It is anticipated that these two smartphones will make their debut in China this month. With this latest release, Qualcomm continues to provide high-quality performance and connectivity solutions for mobile devices.
