Bryan Poerwo of EndeavourOS announced today the release of the Galileo Neo update to the EndeavourOS Galileo release, introducing a new kernel for improved hardware support and addressing various bug fixes.
EndeavourOS Galileo Neo, arriving just over two months after the initial Galileo release, caters to users seeking an up-to-date installation experience for new computers. This release is powered by the latest Linux 6.7 kernel series and Mesa 23.3.3 graphics stack, ensuring optimal performance.
The installer, based on Calamares 3.3, has received updates as well. Notably, it now automatically installs the r8168-lts package when users choose the Linux kernel LTS option. Additionally, the installer now properly unmounts a device in case of installation errors, allowing immediate reuse for another installation session.
Among the fixes implemented in EndeavourOS Galileo Neo is the resolution of issues in the KDE Plasma offline installation option. The developers have addressed problems within the Bash script that caused disruptions for users running Wayland sessions. Furthermore, the KDE Plasma online installation option has been optimized to prevent fetching old named packages.
A significant improvement in this release is the resolution of an issue causing disruptive effects and composition in the KDE Plasma live environment for users with machines running legacy Intel graphics.
As expected, most packages included in EndeavourOS Galileo Neo have been updated to their latest versions from the Arch Linux repositories. Notable updates include Mozilla Firefox 122 web browser and XOrg Server 21.1.11, addressing several security vulnerabilities.
The live ISO image ships with KDE Plasma 5.27.10 LTS as the default desktop environment, accompanied by the KDE Frameworks 5.114 and KDE Gear 23.08.4 software suites. Looking ahead, it is anticipated that the next major EndeavourOS release will feature the upcoming KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment by default.
EndeavourOS Galileo Neo is available for download on the official website for new installations. Existing EndeavourOS users can effortlessly update their systems by executing the sudo pacman -Syu command in a terminal emulator.
